Apostille on a divorce certificate: who affixes it, what it costs, how long it takes
Divorce certificate. If the divorce went through a court rather than the civil registry office, the certificate is still issued by the civil registry office on the basis of the court judgment, and the apostille goes on that certificate.

What an apostille on a divorce certificate looks like
The form is the same for every country and authority: a square stamp with ten numbered fields and a French heading. It is placed on the document itself or on a separate sheet attached to it (Article 4 of the Hague Convention). Hover over a field to see what goes in it.
The form of the stamp is set out in the annex to the 1961 Hague Convention and is the same in every contracting state. The heading in French is compulsory; the other captions may be repeated in the language of the country. The square measures at least 9 centimetres on each side.

Do I need an apostille on a divorce certificate?
It depends on the country where the document will be presented. Hague Convention countries require an apostille, countries outside the Convention require consular legalisation, and countries that have a treaty on legal assistance with Russia accept the document without either. Choose the country in the route on this page — it shows what you need.
Can an apostille be placed on a divorce certificate?
Yes, on the original. It is affixed by the civil registry authority of the region of the Russian Federation where the civil status record was made. In addition, the Ministry of Justice office in the notary’s region can apostille a notarised copy — confirming the notary’s signature. Check with the recipient whether the destination country accepts this.
What does an apostille on a divorce certificate look like?
It is a stamp of a set form: a square headed “Apostille (Convention de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961)” with ten numbered fields — country, who signed the document, in what capacity, whose seal it bears, where and when the apostille was issued, by whom, under what number, seal and signature.
