Duplicate certificate
A further copy of a civil status certificate, needed where the original is damaged, laminated or on a form that cannot be apostilled.
Russian law calls it a ‘repeat certificate’: a new copy of the civil status record issued in place of one that is lost, damaged or unusable. The procedure is set out in article 9 of the Federal Law on Civil Status Acts.
The duplicate is issued by the office named in the request and, where you apply in person, on the same day. The apostille is then affixed by the region that issued the duplicate — which is often the point of obtaining one.

A civil status certificate sealed in plastic film: it cannot be apostilled and a notarised copy cannot be made from it either. A duplicate on an ordinary form is needed.
